Board of Directors, Chair, Director of Development
Helen is a business professional with over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing management, business development, and strategic consulting. With an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, Helen has worked for multi-national companies and International publishers. Helen is active in professional and community organizations. She is a Past President of the South Florida Chapter of the Women in International Trade (OWIT) and a past Vice President of Community for the Junior League of Miami (JLM) where she currently serves on the Board of Directors. For the past four years, Helen has dedicated her time to the non-profit sector managing fundraisers and volunteer teams and was recognized in 2013 by the Junior League of Miami with the Rebecca Herndon Bush Award for her outstanding service to the community. Helen became involved with Whispering Manes when she offered to develop and chair a fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for the newly established Therapeutic Riding Center. Helen was invited to join the board of Directors in 2014 and hopes to use her business development and fundraising skills to benefit Whispering Manes.

Debbie graduated from the University of South Florida, College of Business with a major in accounting in 1974. After getting married in 1976, Debbie moved from her home town of St. Petersburg, FL to Miami. Debbie has 41years of experience in the accounting field both in public accounting and private accounting. Since 1981 Debbie has worked with her husband in his public accounting practice located in Coral Gables. Sad to see Erin leave the small animal veterinary practice where Debbie first met Erin, Debbie began helping Erin during her first year as Executive Director of Whispering Manes with accounting questions and day to day business question and was excited to be invited to join the Board in 2012. Whispering Manes has given Debbie the opportunity to give back to the community by helping individuals with disabilities learn to ride and work with therapeutic horses. She sees a great need for these services in our area.

Regina Zelonker is a Miami native, having graduated from Miami Senior High School and the University of Miami for undergraduate and law school. She has handled all types of family cases as an attorney and as a mediator. However, it is Regina’s volunteer activities of which she is most proud, including being a part of Whispering Manes. Its mission of serving children, veterans and others who benefit from therapeutic riding is something she wants to be a part of and help strengthen. As Regina is an animal enthusiast, it is the horses that make Whispering Manes especially meaningful.
Originally from Canada, Shawn moved to Miami Beach over a decade ago by way of New Orleans, where he earned an MBA in Marketing and Finance. After working in the Telecom industry in Senior Sales Executive positions for MCI and Global Crossing Shawn decided to follow his true hobby which is Real Estate.
Shawn Frechette is a top Multi-Million dollar producing real estate professional in the Miami and Miami Beach Luxury market. With over 13 years of experience, and a member of the Luxury Homes Marketing Group, both buyers and sellers have trusted Shawn Frechette as their go-to premier realtor for Miami and the Beaches.
Shawn was invited to join the WM Board in 2014. Whispering Manes has given Shawn the opportunity to give back to the community by helping individuals with disabilities, he believes that there is a great need for these services in our community.
As a young woman Jo-An’s drive for excellence both in the classroom and in athletics led her to the United States Air Force Academy where she was a member of the third class of women. However, her true love was the sea and while offered a place at the United States Naval Academy, Jo-An went the hard route to be commissioned in the United States Navy. Later, Jo-An pursued advanced degrees in Geology (childhood interest) and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Miami.
As a professional geologist, Jo-An owns and manages an Environmental Engineering/Consulting business serving mainly Department of Defense clients. Jo-An is the mother of three children. She enjoys being active on the Board of Trustees and in a Development capacity for several non-profit organizations serving disabled children, veterans, schools, and cancer survivors. Jo-An has experience in grant writing, fundraising, event planning, and development and is looking forward to sharing her skills with Whispering Manes.
Amanda moved to Miami over seven years ago, after completing her undergraduate studies and law school in St. Louis, MO, and beginning her legal career in Cleveland, OH. After serving as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Amanda joined The Ferraro Law Firm where she serves as a trial lawyer practicing in the area of toxic tort litigation. After moving to Miami, Amanda quickly became involved in the community and began volunteering her time, largely through the Junior League of Miami, where she currently serves as the President Elect. Amanda also has served on the Board of CHARLEE and been an active fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, participating in and being a leader for eight seasons with its Team in Training program. Amanda's volunteer work was recognized in 2013 when she was presented with the Junior League of Miami's Volunteer of the Year Award, and again in 2015 when she was awarded the League's Rebecca Herndon Bush Award for her service to the community. It was through the Junior League that Amanda was introduced to Whispering Manes, and where she witnessed first-hand the impact of the organization and its programs. Amanda was invited to join the Board of Whispering Manes in 2015, and hopes to use her legal talents as well as her fundraising, event planning and leadership skills to help the organization continue its growth.
